HERNANDO AND CITRUS COUNTY
HERNANDO COMPUTER CLUB
If you are frustrated with your computer, tablet, iPhone, or any gadget, and want to learn how to use it, look no further than the Hernando Computer Club.
The club is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that has been in existence in Hernando County for over 20 years and meets on the campus of Grace Presbyterian Church, 8375 Spring Hill Dr.
The goal of the club is to share and teach computing information, skills and techniques in a congenial atmosphere, as well as enjoy social activities and support community projects in Hernando County. There are currently over 600 members. The cost of membership is $30.00 for one year and $40.00 for two years.
Each week, volunteer instructors teach classes on Getting Started with Your Computer, Using Windows 10, iPad, iPhone, Skype, and Kindle and online file storage, to name a few. Cost ranges from $2 to $5 and one-on-one instruction is $10 per hour. Additionally, workshops on Social Media, Food, Computerized Sewing, and other topics are also available to members at cost of $2. Non-members may attend one class/workshop for free.
If you are interested in learning more about the club, please join us for an Open House/Newcomer Orientation, at 10 a.m., Sept. 11, in Building B, on the church campus. Admission is free; refreshments are served.
Visit www.hcc.org , or call 352-684-7171 for more information on our general meetings, social activities and the community projects the club supports.
The Hernando Computer Club accepts donations of complete computer systems (Windows Vista or newer) which are refurbished by Gray Alexander, the club’s Facilities Coordinator, and then donated to local schools and organizations. In this photo, Bob Pellito, media general manager at Pine Grove Elementary School, is accepting two desktop computers, complete with speakers, keyboard and optical mouse. Gail Hines, Director of Community Services, coordinates with schools and organizations to determine their needs and then arranges for the presentation at the club’s general meetings.
Each year, the Hernando Computer Club hosts EXPO which is the largest promotional event of the year. Instructors explain the classes offered to members and demonstrate the amazing things you can do with your computer, iPhone, tablet, etc. Volunteers showcase the club social activities and community support provided to local schools and charitable organizations. This event is free and open to the public.
Every member, who volunteers a minimum of six times during a club year, is invited to attend the annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. This event is held in a local country club, includes a wonderful buffet dinner, entertainment and dancing, all at no cost to the volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include: serving as an instructor; greeter or coffee maker for classes; working at general meetings; or the Open House/Newcomers’ Orientation; serving on the board of directors; and more.
